Great report there Billiard, loved the pics! I'd have loved to go on a gaming rampage inside that arcade you went to, that looked like FUN!

Excellent article. It's good to see that anet hq is pretty much a working environment and not some stuffy overpriced office. I also always picture Gaile welding a magic wand of mending and pixie dust bag focus item. Damn the reality!
Anyway a dream vacation captured for the masses, great stuff! Thanks so much

Excellent write up Billiard. In spite of the growing list of demands from the community, it is good to see that the good people at Anet know how to have some fun. Looks like a pretty fun work environment.

The gun next to Izzy's desk is indeed a Nerf gun- the "Titan" rocket launcher. There's actually a fringe sport similar to paintball but using modified Nerf weaponry, and the Titan's massive air tank makes it quite nasty when adapted to use smaller darts- if done well, you can fire a hot glue and lead-weighted foam dart 150+ feet, with enough force to dent thin metal and punch holes in cardboard.
*Watches as people give him odd looks* What?
Back ON topic, lovely article. I look forward to seeing more of what Anet has coming for us. Keep 'em coming!

thanks for the report there
Having read the German sites who have already gone into the Q&A session it seems the big absent question there was, what we could expect from chapter 4...
Since it would seem one of the most burning questions on people's minds, I have to ask: Was the topic off limits?

Yes they told us even before the event that Ch 4 was offlimits and Gaile reiterated this at the start of the round talme. So I think maybe one or two people tried anyway - but they were shot down right away.
Anyway I saw the posts up on one of the German sites, and I can guarantee you that I have already written more detail than that on my report, and I am still working on the first question! I'll get things going as soon as I can as I know people are anxious - just be aware that nothing earth shattering happened.

I guess I figured as much...they seem to be more secretive about it than ever before...
Still, not too lessen my interest in your next report. I am certainly still looking forward to it.

Inside this area was Izzy’s desk, among a bunch of others. What I found really interesting is that while most people had 2 monitors on their desk, Izzy had 3 plus a laptop. Apparently he almost always has Observer Mode up to keep track of what is going on. Izzy later came in and started chatting with folks and getting to work. On this this tour of the studio we really didn't stay anywhere long enough to talk much with folks, but later when they did the design demos we were able to spend more time talking to people. So it was kind of weird as Gaile introduced us to each new group of people and they all said hi and treated us well. All together there seemed to be easily over a hundred folks working while we toured.

Secretive? Us?
I think you'll find that we were very forthcoming and quite outspoken about Guild Wars. We talked about a lot of topics, including areas in which we're happy, areas where we could have done better, past concepts, current expectations, future hopes. It was truly a roundtable discussion, too, not a monologue or two-hour ramble by a bunch of us devs. Billiard can confirm I took several opportunities to open the conversation by directly asking for comments and input from the fansite reps on several topics. They didn't fail to provide, either, and gave us much-valued feedback and commentary from the global community as a whole.
As to the future, well, there are matters of timing. We talked about several elements of the future, but it's true that we did not spend too much time talking about the next campaign or other things of that nature. All in good time.
